Mrs. Orsaks' KinderKorner

Hello My Name Is...

Susan Orsak

Welcome to a new school year. I am pleased to be your child's teacher. Let me know of any allergy concerns or any special concerns regarding your child. Kindergarten is a time of discovery. Children will experience learning in many forms. It is my desire that your child develops a passion for learning by seeing, hearing, and manipulating. Together, we can make this a happy and rewarding year for your child. My door is always open to help in this process. Please feel free to come in and discuss any aspect of your child's learning. Email or call from 2:45 to 3:15.

We will have a snack each day. Please send a box or bag of cereal ONCE a month. Some good choices are corn pops, lucky charms, cocoa puffs, and fruit loops.

We love to celebrate birthdays! You are welcome to come with a treat, or send one for your child's special day. I try to have birthday treats from 2:00 to 2:30. Let me know your wishes.

Expect a KinderKorner page each Monday in your child's homework folder. It will explain the skills to be taught for the week. I will assign individual homework for the first 12 weeks. After that, your child will be in a reading/math group for the remainder of the year.
HOMEWORK is intended to reinforce the lessons taught during the school week. I DO NOT want your child to do more than 30 minutes of homework each evening. We work hard during the school day. Homework gives your child a "yes I can..." attitude.

I send many books for your child to practice through the week. This gives your child the opportunity to practice more than one rule a week. Each child is individual in needs. My own two boys were as different as night and day! One always wanted more work and the other would barely do the minimum requirements.

The calendar and the "little phonics readers" are sent home for reinforcement as needed. Use these items to fit your child's needs.

Note: Please send a change of clothes to keep in your child's backpack. I'm looking forward to a GREAT year with your terrific kid!
